Dad, why won't you feed me?

This one kept crying at the dad (or mom?), who very calmly ignored him
See, Mom, I'm as big as you are now!
Dad turned and let 'er rip just as I came on the scene!

Mother and Baby Ospreys

I went to visit the osprey nests the other day. The babies are as big as the parents now but are not flying for a few weeks yet. You can see their light markings on the sides to differentiate them from the mother. I've always missed their first flight. There are 3 nests along this road by the river, plus 2 other nests I know of farther away, so you'd think surely I'd get to see one of them take off someday!
Half-Pint

Okay, I'm a total sucker for our neighborhood baby barred owls! This is the first year I've heard one of them (and got a shot) in my own backyard. It's so frustrating that they're always in such dark surroundings, so it's hard to get a sharp shot. At least I got the eyes! To see how much s/he's grown up in the last month, compare it to this shot. I saw this one fly between several trees, but s/he was still calling for Mom or Dad to bring dinner NOW!
Praying for Dinner to Fly In!

I've been watching and listening for this year's baby barred owls in the neighborhood and finally saw one yesterday. By this time they're flying but still dependent on Mom/Dad to bring them their food. Isn't s/he so adorable???

Here's the same one a month later

All-American Family

I had one of the most spectacular opportunities of my life this weekend -- I got to see baby eaglets. What a thrill! This wasn't the best shot -- I'll post more later -- but it was the best I got of all four members of the family.
