synapped > Other > The Latest Thing Pre-2012
My "Latest Thing" galleries are a nearly daily upload of whatever catches my eye at the moment, so it's a hodgepodge of images. They are then organized -- along with occasionally some images that don't make it into The Latest Thing -- into categories you can find by clicking in the upper left on "synapped."

synapped > Feed Me, Feed Meeeee!

Isn't it amazing when the babies getting fed are as big as the parents!
I need i.d. assistance with this one. I saw them at Ridgefield wildlife refuge on the Kiwa trail.

synapped > Mt. St. Helens

I haven't been up to Mt. St. Helens in years. Since this was the 30-year anniversary of the eruption I made it a point to make the 2-hour drive up there. This view from Johnston Ridge after the video presentation of the eruption always fills me with awe!

synapped > The Search for Better Things

I'm a delegate to the Republican state convention this weekend so won't be around much for a couple days -- just posting and running. I don't have the mind to understand political things very well, but I have enuf of a mind to know things really need to change in our country, so I do what I can as support. I don't like it, but I think it has to be done! So this is something I can do to try to help.

synapped > Makin' Our Own Sunshine

We're still in the midst of a deluge in our rainy part of the country, so we have to do what we can do to cheer ourselves up!

synapped > Strength and Courage Can Sometimes Be Lonely Friends

I'm finally getting around to processing another shot from my Steptoe Butte Palouse Hills weekend. It was amazing up there! This is zoomed in from the other shot.

synapped > Not in the Mood

It's time for another iris. I took hundreds at the Schreiner's iris gardens near Salem some time back and have only processed a couple. These dark ones are really hard to expose correctly, but I love them so had to work on one. Looks like it uploaded darker than on my monitor. Guess I'll fix it later -- I'm just not in the mood....!

I had a verrrrry sad day today. I dropped my best, most expensive "monster" lens (worth $1600) and broke it. I just got it back from being repaired ('cuz it quit focusing) about a month ago -- cost $400. I had looked into an insurance rider about a month before that but didn't want to spend the $2-400/year and never got around to doing it. AAARRRGGGHHH!! No more bird pix for a looooong time... tears, tears, more tears...

synapped > I re-discovered a garden I'd forgotten about, and it was full of hummingbirds. Ohhh, how I wish I had my 50D back from the shop! But I also relearned the LAB sharpening technique from my good friend PhotosEcosse, and it made a WORLD of difference. Hugs to Barbara!

synapped > Bring Out the Cheer!

I live in a very rainy area -- Portland/ Vancouver, and this time of year it really starts to get to me while I wait thru the last month before our summer really begins. I guess sometimes you just have to make lemonade!

Sorry -- I've been rather AWOL from SM while in the midst of 3 big photography projects. Hopefully in another week my life will slow down a bit and I can get back to seeing more of what you are all posting. I seriously miss your lovely pix.

synapped > I'm so excited -- we have owlets in our neighborhood again this year! (these are barred owls, or what's commonly known as "hoot owls.") I just took these this morning. There are 3 of them. These 2 were on one branch... (more below) Here's a YouTube video with their sound, tho ours are much louder than you can hear on the video.

Any of you locals who would like directions, we live near Hockinson, and I'd be happy to tell you where to find them if you're interested.
